I started this blog after moving to northern New Mexico from coastal North Carolina. Feeling the loss of my creative community, I started posting works in progress as a way to push myself forward and connect with other writers and painters.
For the first eight months or so I offered original narrative images as weekly image prompt for writers. The Storybook Collaborative pages document the collaborations.
Sadly - for I have enjoyed the adventure, and meeting so many interesting, creative souls - keeping the blog has has taken a back seat to sleep, family, work obligations and the birth of our Mountain daughters. I'd like to get back to it and still hope to one day. Until such time I am delighted by your visit and hope you will leave a comment and come back for more.

Naomi does indeed look radiant! Why doesn’t she look all harassed and weary like women generally do at the end of a pregnancy? 🙂 This baby clearly knows how to make a grand entrance – it augers well.

Are you sure you’re 9 mos? You look so slim and energetic, Naomi, I was the size of six sows by this point. Anyways, lovely to see you, try squatting, I read yesterday it brings it on (yeah, right *grin*). Good luck to you all.

Naomi is beyond radiant, beyond beautiful. She could be a poster girl for the world of pregnacy! Perhaps she is putting on a brave face, a pretty smile, but somehow the woman that she is seems to be taking all this in stride. Many of us are pessimistic about bringing new children into this world at war, this strife, things as they are–but somehow Rick, you and Naomi could not be more perfect as a couple to beat the odds, to bring a child into the midst, and shower it with love and art, and groom it to inherit a new world; one that she/he and Broadus will make with their capable and loving hands.
I continue to be amazed at your art, your mind, your prose, and poetry, Rick, as I mine your archives like a poetry mole, searching, scratching, rearranging, seeing some of your paintings in their first incarnation, like Stupid War, and others. I post your stuff proudly on my site, your paintings, your words and thoughts. More people need to see it, to read it, to feel it. You are a power to be reckoned with, Mobbs, and your blogs continue to bolster your confidence, and deepen your soulness. Good on you.

I thought of you during my lunch break here at the office. I was posting some quotes by Paul Klee. He said:
“Art does not reproduce what we see; rather, it make us see.”
and he said, “Children also have artistic ability, and there is wisdom in their having it. The more helpless they are, the more instructive are the examples they furnish us, and they must be preserved free of corruption from an early age.”
So keep Broadus sketching, and share with us.

Rick, your Naomi looks radiant and serene – a testimony to the love, peace and joy that must be your collaborative essense – which will shortly be in visible form and hands-on reality. Because of my present ‘puter problems, I haven’t had the opportunity lately to share in your imminent joy. Let me just say you’re all in my thoughts & prayers as you wait with great anticipation. At first glance at Naomi, I think she’s carrying a boy because she’s carrying her weight mainly in front, but I don’t think she’s carrying low enough for it to be a boy, so I’ll expect to hear about your lovely new daughter, but won’t be surprised if you gain another son. 🙂 heh heh (You’re beautiful, Naomi!)
(Today my husband has dusted off & jimmy-rigged my clunky olde HP Pavilion computer and joined it with my new Gateway monitor and keyboard over in my office until we get our internet satellite service upgraded the first of next week via Fedex’d software. He’ll get that going when he gets back home next Friday. Until then, I’m using my Earthilink service. The only problem is this useless Microsoft ME (Millineum Edition) OS. My Gateway hard-drive died more than a week ago. Sheet happens, I know ;> Scott thinks it might just need a new power supply. I hope he’s right.)

Hey everybody, thank you so much for your kind wishes. Maybe the kid is waiting for the 4th of July. The last one was born on Halloween…

Glenn, enough with the compliments already. People are going to think I’m paying you. It is your poetry we want to see. Mine is fine where it is and I’ll get back to it one day. That Stupid War poem you wrote was amazing. We need more of you here, your voice, your words. This isn’t about me. It is about us. And have someone show you how to link from your site when you leave a note or a poem here. That way people can visit you.
